I'VE GOT TUMBLR

Sorry guys i've moved to tumblr just as that's where all my other shit is. www.jvideo.tumblr.com

SpecialThanks

Special Thanks is a pop-punk band from Aichi Prefecture, Japan. The band currently consists of Misaki (vocals & guitar), Sean (guitar & chorus), Lupin (bass & chorus) and Nochi (drums). Special Thanks formed in 2005 and has gone through various lineup changes before even releasing their first album, Seven Colors, in August 2008.
However I'm currently rocking out to the albums "Seven Lovers" and "Seven Showers". Both albums are full of catchy powerpop rock songs. Misaki's vocals are beautiful and the overall guitar tones are superb!

The Milkees

The Milkees are my choice for today. The Milkees are four piece 60s influenced all girl band from Kobe, Japan. They sing both in Japanese and English and there's usually a few covers of classic songs on there albums. The instrumentation isn't going to make you think "WOW THIS IS THE BEST THING SINCE BREAD (yeah before sliced)", the thing that they have down is harmonies. The harmonies on all of there albums are perfect, they are proper 1960s soul girl group style, fantastic!!!

Bigmama

My new find this week - Bigmama. To sum the band up to people who dont really know anything about Bigmama. The easiest way to describe them is "A Japanese Yellowcard". If you dont know who yellowcard are....then... pop punk with a violin.

I've downloaded: Short Films, Lost and Leave and Roclassick. Roclassik is a very clever mini album. The band have taken well known classical songs and mixed in lyrics and pop punk. Fantastic!

Uplift Spice

I can't get enough of this band at the moment.

Uplift Spice are a 4 piece female fronted j-rock/emo/punk band. I hate putting "emo" as my experience of "modern" emo has mainly been a bad one, and this isn't modern emo. But that's the tag they give themselves.

Their albums Memento and Paradigm Shift are getting a lot of play on my iPod at the moment. Really clever, powerful stuff.

Yum!Yum!Orange

The sun is out (for a change) and i'm currently dancing around to this little ditty.

Yum!Yum!ORANGE first began in 1999 as a seven-member group (with a saxophone player and a different vocalist). As a self-proclaimed “girl pop meets ska” band, Yum!Yum!ORANGE stepped into and redefined musical territory that had been first breached by the likes of the Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra.

In 2000, the band released two demo tapes and played at small-scale lives, while slowly but surely gaining a positive reputation. In the following years Yum!Yum!ORANGE would work with bands such as B-DASH, 175R, SHAKALABBITS, and STANCE PUNKS in various compilations and events.

Their first single, titled “Letter”, was released in June of 2002, and “ORANGE STREET 33”, their first album, was put out the following October. Both did fairly well on music charts and in sales.

Since then, Yum!Yum!ORANGE has changed vocalists and dropped the saxophone, and have remained a six-member band for over a year.

Polysics

This has to be the first band I post about. POLYSICS are quite possibly my favorite J-Rock band of all time. Taking influence from Devo, POLYSICS create something like Devo but insane.
Energetic stage shows, and catchy songs that you can dance to, you can't go wrong with POLYSICS.

Wiki:
Polysics (ポリシックス, typeset POLYSICS) is a Japanese new wave and rock band from Tokyo, who dubs its unique style as "technicolor pogo punk". It was named after a brand of synthesizer, the Korg Polysix. The band started in 1997, but got their big break in 1998 at a concert in Tokyo. They create high energy music, fusing conventional guitar music, with synthesized and computer generated sound to create a unique mixture of punk and synthpop, heavily inspired by the American bands Devo and The Tubes, and Japanese bands such as P-Model and Yellow Magic Orchestra. Their song lyrics often consist of Japanese, English, or just plain gibberish. The band has been noted for their extremely energetic live performances and their wild gimmicky outfits, notably their trademark orange boiler suits, with a simple "P" stamped on them, and their straight-bar sunglasses.

This was the first POLYSICS song I ever heard.

Blog Number 1

Hi, My names Daryl. I'm not Japanese, I'm not even slightly Japanese. In fact I'm English.
At the moment in time I'm 26 and I have a passion for all types of music.

I've always been in to the Japanese "Arts" and especially music, I'm not sure what made me delve into this world, but I'm glad I did.
From a musicians point of view (I'm a musician ya know) musically everything I've heard come from Japan is fantastic. Production is always first class and musicians within the bands/acts are always on top form. I think a lot of people wont delve into this world as they can't get over the singing in Japanese. Hey, I don't speak Japanese, but I do find myself singing the melodies to a lot of the music I listen to.

When I was younger and the internet was not as big or fast finding Japanese music was a bloody hard task. I always found myself searching the credits at the end of Japanese DVDs for "music performed by". Or I would try and search the Japanese version of Play and Amazon to find stuff. Now days the web it huge! Recently I came across some fantastic blogs: http://voodoovault.blogspot.com/ and http://nyu-anime.blogspot.com. They both feature not just Japanese but Korean music too. These blogs have given me a fantastic portal for discovering Japanese music that I would of otherwise been unaware of. Make sure you check the sites out!

Anyway I'm not going to carry on for to much longer. As I want to start posting.

But welcome to my blog. Please comment , share, etc.
